For three consecutive years, the International Volunteer Service Group of the National Taipei University of Business, have successfully utilized their summer holidays and cooperated with the Institute for Information Industry and 財團法人華碩文教基金會 in order to step out of the country and into the world of international volunteering. This year, for the first time, the highly praised International Volunteer Service Group had the opportunity to work with Universiti Utara Malaysia, providing local entrepreneurs with business and IT skills, thus enhancing sales.
For the past three years, the International Volunteer Service Group were able to attain the SONADEZI Institution Service Program in Vietnam but due to the Sino-Vietnamese incident that occurred earlier this year, hopes of proceeding to Vietnam was lost. After being notified of similarities in service goals and purposes between NTUB and UUM, it was decided that a change of location was in order.
Since the end of last year, the International Volunteer Service Group (consisting of 15 people in total) of NTUB have been recruiting and making preparations for half a year. After that, it’s an intensive two month training course in English, Computer Skills, Colour Science, Online Marketing, Health, P.E. and so on and so forth. Finally, in August, can the Service Group pack and begin the adventure. While there has been partial aid on the financial side, the rest has all been thanks to the support of our alumnis and money from charity sales.
The International Volunteer Service Group left on the 4th of August and held a meeting with the teachers and students of UUM. During the following nine days, in order to experience the culture, volunteers from NTUB and UUM were divided into groups and sent off to various local businesses to improve their sales and business opportunities through teaching English and Online Marketing courses. This way, entrepreneurs are able to promote their products by using the Internet therefore increasing the number of products sold and the profit accumulated.
Through cross-cultural experiences such as this one, students of the International Volunteer Service Group of the National Taipei University of Business were given the opportunity to contribute what they’ve learnt and to demonstrate their business professionalism. NTUB has long been set on producing professionals of good character with a talent for business and by donating their knowledge, their time and their energy to serving the international community, they have earned themselves a priceless sense of accomplishment.
